Current State: Snowboarding is a book that compiles some of the most prominent individuals and images of snowboarding’s past three decades. Made up of two interconnected full-size books, it features interviews with 23 of the culture’s most influential and original characters, assembled in an attempt to create an overall – if blurry – image of its current state.

The book consists of two full-size books that are fused at one edge of their back cover, turning every spread into a 4-page-composition of correlating content. Folded up, they store away nicely in a durable cover sleeve. Of course, each book can be
viewed individually as well.

Unfortunately the book will only be released in a very limited edition and not be available to dealers or wholesale. You will be able to order a maximum of two copies per person as long as supplies last. MAGMA Brand Design and Slant Magazine are calling for entries for FRESH, a new series of three books dedicated to illustration.

“FRESH is a collection of contemporary illustration from around the world, presenting a wide range of styles and techniques. The series of three books will present successful projects from brand new faces to star illustrators. Contributors are welcome to send in work for a single category or for all three categories. Submission is free of charge. There is no entry fee.

“There are no boundaries: today’s edges between style, format and content are blurring as well as the real and the imagined have been blurred. FRESH is a ground breaking collection of contemporary illustration from around the world, presenting a wide range of styles and techniques. The series of three books will present successful projects from brand new faces to star illustrators. Contributors are welcome to send in work for a single category or for all categories.

FRESH 1: 3D+Object
Cutting edge illustrations in 3D+Object explores Illustration in a sculptural or 3 dimensional environment as well as the art of illustrations applied on products as industrial- or fashion-design (e.g. apparel, sporting goods, packaging, bottles, furniture, cars etc…).

FRESH 2: Public
Cutting edge illustrations in public shows street art, graffiti and illustration in architecture, in-store graphics or public space.

FRESH 3: Print
Cutting edge illustrations in the press is a presentation of personal designs alongside commercial work produced for books, flyers, brochures, or magazines.

The deadline for entries is February the 17th.

GUDBERG is a design mag born in Hamburg, Germany, that’s gained international recognition since its humble beginnings in September 2007. Behind the magazine is a creative agency collective called GUDBERG that mainly works in publishing, illustration and editorial
design. They curate and design four issues a year, each with a major editorial topic and feature international artists. GUDBERG can be found in select galleries, bookstores, cafés or hotels. You’ve got to be quick though – as they only print 2000 copies of each issue, and they’re usually quickly snatched up.
