Fresh Paint is a pop up art project put forward by the Under Pressure collective. The Fresh Paint team, led by Sterling Downey and volunteers coming from various artistic backgrounds, allows artists who practice graffiti and street art to showcase their creations in an environment conducive to cultural and creative development. Between August 2011 and August 2012, the space will welcome over a hundred local and international artists, as well as thousands of visitors. Presented as a fluid exhibit in constant motion, the project illustrates the many facets of an art typically associated with illegal street practices. In celebration of unconventional methods, we find an eclectic mix of latex, acrylic, wheat paste, spray paint, sculptures, installations, multimedia projections, serigraphy, and much more. The space in itself is a treasure within the Montreal landscape; located downtown on Sainte-Catherine street at the corner of Hôtel-de-Ville, it occupies the former office space of the liberal newspaper La Patrie, created in 1879 by Honoré Beaugrand and published until 1978.
