Antoine Revoy:

As an insect plays its role, I create art as a natural and†self-fulfilling†activity. My drawings and paintings are a†materialisation†of my inner world; they are the result of what I do when no one is watching. Minutes, hours and years of solitary work add up in an unbroken line of delight in the refinement of craftsmanship and the simple pleasure of drawing. I have always held this art form in instinctive, high respect, a precious, magical ability to give life and form, not to be wasted on crass caricature or graffiti. In its purest expression and most honest incarnation I liken it to ballet, requiring unwavering dedication, tenacity and an element of physical pain.

Valuing imagination over reference, exploration over communication, mystery over experience, I am inspired by images I have not seen, stories that do not exist and memories of little moments that have not happened. I seek not to convey what I have seen but to contribute novel, hitherto non-existent visions.

Antoine was born in Paris and grew up in Tokyo, Mexico City and
Barcelona. After earning a B.F.A. in Film/Animation/Video from the Rhode
Island School of Design in 1999, Antoine started a career as a designer
while simultaneously freelancing as an illustrator, before dedicating
himself solely to illustration in 2009.

Antoine’s illustration work has won recognition from the industry’s
preeminent juries and publications, notably The Society of Illustrators,
American Illustration, Print Magazine, 3×3 Magazine and Spectrum. In 2011
Antoine Revoy received a Gold Award from Graphis and in 2012 was awarded a
Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles.

Antoine currently resides in the East Coast of the United States, teaches
at the Montserrat College of Art and the Rhode Island School of Design,
and is married to illustrator Kelly Murphy.
