Code Red Magazine
is a Moscow-based graffiti magazine, blog, and independent streetwear brand.
CODE RED is the first Russian coloured high-quality magazine dedicated to graffiti and street art covering mainly the Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian scene. The first issue came out in 2005 and instantly became a hit. All the five issues that followed were also bilingual (Russian-English) and contained hand-picked images, exclusive interviews with both Russian and foreign graffiti writers, artists, and photographers, as well as photo materials from different graffiti jams and festivals. CODE RED has had a great influence on all local graf mags that were started later.
In 2009 the CODE RED blog was launched. It has two principle goals. The first is to collect the most interesting pieces of news about graffiti, art, graphic design, and more from all around the world and bring them to the Russian-speaking audience. And the second one is to educate youngsters, to broaden their perception of art (so that they don’t limit themselves only to graffiti), get them to know the great artists of the past, as well as some young talented people from different art fields, including sculpture, illustration, design etc.
In 2007 CODE RED designed and produced an exclusive can bag for graffiti writers; then some hip bags and backpacks followed. The locally made high-quality products quickly became really popular with the writers community allowing CODE RED to grow and evolve into a small independent streetwear brand. Since 2010 CODE RED has been producing limited editions of pants, shorts, hoodies, t-shirts, headwear, and other accessories.
