Art on Snow 2013 – The alps’ biggest art festival
Whole Gasteinertal transforms into an art atelier
From 2nd to 8th of February the complete Austrian Gasteinertal will be under the banner of art. One week long, young artists from the fields of painting, drawing, sculpture and photography present their contemporary artworks, create art live on site and be there to explain their works to the visitors. Thrilling street art performances, exhibitions, workshops and parties round off the wide program of the Art on Snow 2013.
When the gates of the Art on Snow 2013 open to the public on saturday, February 2nd, the whole Gasteinertal will be under the sign of young, contemporary art. At different locations throughout the valley snow- and ice-sculptures will crop up, streets transform into giant 3D-artworks and mountain railway cars into moving canvases.
The Art on Snow is hosted by the Gasteinertal and its communities Bad Gastein, Bad Hofgastein and Dorfgastein for the second time now, which – due to the long art history and the imperial-royal architecture – are the perfect locations for the art festival.
The basis of the Art on Snow throughout the event week will again be the exhibition in the solemn art nouveau rooms of the former Hotel L’Europe in Bad Gastein. Here, nine international artists with totally different styles will present their artworks one week long. On the 2nd and 3rd of February the exhibiting artists will personally be on site to create art right in front of the visitors, to interchange with each other and to explain the individual intentions for their artworks to the visitors.
The diversified artist portfolio of the Art on Snow features names like 345 and Jean, both members of the French Orbit 119 Crew, Christian Kreisel from Germany as well as the ice sculpturist and Gastein local Alexander Neumayer.
The agenda of the Art on Snow will grow more extensive from day to day. Besides the exhibition, new items like the creation of the snow- and ice-sculptures, 3D painting performances, livepainting and painting workshops are added to the agenda every day.
The „Big Picture“ is a completely new Art on Snow feature, where three artists will create three artworks each, which in the end will form three giant pieces of art.
The artworks created during the event week will be gathered up on Friday, 8th of February and presented centrally at the Big Bang Finissage, until the Art on Snow 2013 finishes off with the great Art of(f) Party.
